A day out on SWT for £20 proved well worth it, weather was great and I added some more route mileage to my collection.
I just took the Canon G10 for the day rather than the big gun so the images are not as good as my usual efforts.
Thanks must go to Modern Locomotives Illustrated and SWT for this one off rover offer.
Due to the various closures on the SBhan I ended up spending most of the 4 days at GH so saw a pretty good selection of loco types and liveries. The weather remaining very agreeable for the time of year.
My first trip to Switzerland and well worth it. For those interested, Wednesday was spent at Pratteln where in a 12 and a half hour session I averaged 1 freight every 6 minutes. Weather was superb for the first 3 days and despite a cloudy start, Friday also was good.
I have already booked my stay in Zurich next May.
My first Eurostar trip and well worth the £59 return fare which is valid to any station in Belgium, hence the inclusion of 5 hours at Antwerpen Berchem for the freight.
A day trip to Denmark (courtesy of DB's Schleswig - Holstein landerkarten), a glorious day at Niebull....for the car trains and a decent fall of snow on the Friday, made the trip well worth it...see for yourselves.
An intensive long weekend organised by Neil for depots and some unit bashing during which we had a brief look at Muttenze yard at Basle (Switzerland). All in all a very productive trip.
My first trip of the year abroad, the highlight being the HSB (Hartz Mountain Railway) from Wernigerode to Brocken. Well worth the journey as the snow became ever more present as the train climbed into the mountains.
A second trip to Germany this year, based in Berlin with an exploratory day out to Poland (courtesy of DB's Brandenburg Lander karten). As can be seen from the images, the weather on all but the 22nd (Poland) was superb particularly considering the time of year.
Foundations now laid for a further trip in the Spring.
A trip for the diverts threw up a bonus in 'Eddie the Engine' which I had not seen for a fair while due to it being OOS and it even stopped in the station.....what more could you ask?
Born in 1951, a rail enthusiast since 1962, with a break between 1968 & 1980 I have done photography on & off since 1966. I have used Canon equipment since 1980 and having owned AV1, A1, EOS 1000f and EOS 5 cameras in the past. I switched to digital via a Fuji compact before buying a Canon EOS 10D. Upgrading in the summer of 2006 to a 5D along with the purchase of 100-400 IS Canon and 12-24 Sigma lenses, I considerably improved on my existing 28-90 and 50mm f1.8 Canon lenses. In October 2007 I added a Canon 24-105 IS L zoom to my bag which made the 28-90 redundant.
June 2008 I added a Canon 70-200 f2.8L zoom to my collection and have since added a Canon G10 compact, which is able to shoot in RAW format, to my equipment list as of January 2009.
With effect from mid October I am now the proud owner of an EOS 5D Mk II and I have sold the 5D and 70 - 200 f2.8 lens to a colleague. The results with my new camera have been excellent.
